Verde

After several last minute cancellations, we thought it would just be the two of us to try the highly recommended nachos at Verde in Kaimuki.  Verde makes huge ass burritos and they are very delicious.  They offer like 6 different kinds of meat and even a Mexican loco moco with spanish rice, pinto beans, queso and more.  But we were there for the nachos.  The restaurant is BYOB and with Tamuras just down the street, it is perfect.  The food comes out quickly and the service is very friendly.  The restaurant does close at 8pm, so go early and go hungry.  The portions are plentiful.

seriously awesome choices of salsas

Nacho Libra (4.5, near perfection) - Lots of meat all over the top, looks messy, bright, and ready to be devoured. RAD: The chipotle BBQ is awesome sauce!!  Can't get enough, put on EACH CHIP!!  Lots of salsa options with non-traditional flares (e.g. hickory smoked jalapenos, strawberries, etc.), fresh cilantro, the beef has a smokey spiciness that is addicting.  CHEESE! LAME: Pile of melted cheese not on chips.  I peeled it off the paper, we don't waste cheese! T:C Ratio=4, would have been a 5 if more cheese was already on the chips.  A near perfect bite includes the barbacoa, chipotle sauce, avocado salsa and pico de gallo all on the chip.  Your taste buds will party.  BYOB & Timura's is right down the street, quick service.  Chips & queso:  queso dip is a bowl of hot, gooey happiness.  Chips are crispy and salty.  Love. The chipotle BBQ is still amazing. 

Cheree (5) - Full of colors, great pico, delish flavor. RAD: The flovor of the meat. LAME: Cheese sticking to paper, we want to eat all of the cheese. T:C Ratio=GREAT.  Beautifully decorated.  Queso:  LOVE LOVE queso, large size, a little too runny, queso + nachos = heaven.

Shananigans (4.75) - Generous toppings, chips are all covered, fresh ingredients. RAD: Real cheese, fresh cilantro, the meat is fucking delicious, pinto beans, BBQ chipotle salsa all you can eat, fresh made guac. LAME: Sour cream and guacamole extra, lack of spice. T:C Ratio=4.75, just a few empty chips at the bottom.  Comes with your choice of a homemade salsa.  Super yummy options.  The chips are crunchy and not too salty.  The queso dip is amazing!  After we tasted it, we realized it would have been EPIC to order the queso at the same time as the nachos and pour it on top!  Dang it!  .
