Blue Ribbon Bar and Grill

A Nacho Night first, we reserved the large karaoke room at Blue Ribbon Bar and Grill for a night of singing and nachos.  It was pretty awesome.  They had two kinds of nachos, regular and tater tot.  The nachos were your average sports bar quality but everyone really seemed to love the tater tot option.  It took us a minute to figure the karaoke machine out and it was a little weird to sit in the room when there was no songs playing cause it was so quiet.  Once we started singing, we didn't really stop except to eat.  Just when we thought it couldn't get any cooler, the waiter turned on the disco ball for us.  Then we discovered the lights moved in sync to the microphone.  AMAZING!  I gave an evil laugh into the microphone watching the lights move around with the bellowing sounds.  This made me laugh for real.  Which made Autumn laugh for real.  Which made me laugh for real.  Next thing we knew, the whole room was laughing out loud until our eyes watered.  Laughter really is contagious.

Nacho Pun (4 regular, 5 tots) – PRESENTATION: The regular nachos looked really good with a big scoop of sour cream on top, looked like enough toppings.  The taters looked dense.  As much as the regulars but just one on the plate. RAD: The nachos had real cheese and plenty of jalapenos.  There were tater tots! LAME: Too much salsa on both plates.  Tater should have been mounded like the chips.  There was just a single layer of tots. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, There was plenty of toppings until the end and the tots had more than enough toppings.  More places need tater tots!

Roberto (4) – PRESENTATION: Super cheeeeeesy! RAD: Lots of yummy salsa!  Spicy! LAME: Empty chips. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, a little light on the toppings.  Awesome disco ball in sych with the microphone.

Shananigans (3 regular, 3.5 tots) – PRESENTATION: Pretty good portion but looks like typical sports bar nachos, not expecting to have my socks blown off. RAD: Real cheese, olives, jalapenos. LAME: Nachos supreme had empty chips under layer of toppings.  Tater tots got soggy right away.  Too much salsa on both, maybe should be on the side.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, lots of toppings but some empty chips.  Too many jalapenos, they were the only thing left behind on the empty plates.  Having a private room was epic.  Our server Michael, the bartender and the other server that helped were all very friendly and attentive.

Miss Stupendous (3) – PRESENTATION: Lots of cheesy goodness covering the top!! RAD: Tater tots as nachos…potatoes are the best!!! Even as a gift.  The spicy jalapenos…heartburn heaven.  POSTSCRIPT:  NOT HEAVEN when they come out later.   LAME: Tyring to search thru the toppings to find a nacho (tot) and tots sticking to the wax paper. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3.2, not enough tots under all the toppings.  Um…private karaoke and disco ball that goes to your voice…need we say more???!

Nacho Libra (2.5, filling but blah) – PRESENTATION: Big and colorful!! You can't even see the tater tots under all the toppings. RAD: Tons of toppings.  The chips are perfectly crispy.  The tator tots are tasty! LAME: Lots of jalapenos.  I like the heat, but not them .  Lots of unmelted cheese.  Not a fan of the jarred salsa and there's tons of it.  There's only like a tablespoon of beef. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, there's tons of salsa, sour cream and jalapenos, but very little beef.  Great service!  Awesome place for karaoke.

JJL (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Nice huge 1/2 cup dollip of sour cream. RAD: The disco ligths move to the voices thru microphones. LAME: They level off one shot even though it's jack on the rocks.  Real manini for $7 drink. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, could've had more ground beef and beef less crispy.  The timing of the drinks when ordered was quick.

Chick (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Looked pretty. RAD: Tots were hot. LAME: Mushy tots. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, not too shabby.

So many empty chips in there!

Tequilla Cat (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Looks pretty good.  They left the sour cream and olives on so we sent them back. RAD: Nachos or tachos-CHOICE! Also, karaoke and disco lights. LAME: Refert to presentation. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, not bad.  Some dry chips left on the plate.  Karaoke private room, sweet lights, and evil laughter was fantastic!

What's that?  A totcho on a nacho!!!!!!

Only in Hawaii do we eat nachos with chopsticks!

Panos are trippy with disco lights
