Having a nacho blog is a lot of responsibility some days. Take yesterday for example. I had nachos for lunch with a friend (which NEVER happens) and then went to meet another friend at the farmer's market after work. One of the vendors had nachos as their special on the menu. Dang it! Even though I had just had nachos for lunch, I had to try these nachos for the blog and the pursuit of all that is nachos! Life is rough.
As I waited to order, I noticed some burritos they were making and they looked pretty amazing. The nachos were available with chicken, beef, or pork. Feeling indecisive, I asked the man working the register and he said beef was his favorite. The nachos were also topped with your choice of beans (black or pinto), which I always go with black beans if I have the choice. There were a couple salsas you could grab a ramekin of as well. I went with green and it was delicioso.
(4) - PRESENTATION: The chips are nothing special, but looks like fresh ingredients piled on. I don't see much cheese and what I do is not melted at all. Interesting. RAD: The freshness of the ingredients was apparent, especially the onion and cilantro. I squeezed a couple limes all over mine and it really made the flavors pop. The beef was definitely tasty. LAME: I could barely find the cheese, it was pretty much non-existent. There were some regular chips on top, but underneath was a sad broken chip graveyard with a bunch of chips too small to eat with toppings. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3.5, loved the guac and the little bits of lettuce. While I loved the freshness and the flavors, the cheese was definitely an issue since they are called NACHOS. I loved the lettuce on the side to make it kinda like a salad. Normally I am not a fan of lettuce as a topping (aka filler) on nachos, but serving on the side allowed me the option to include it and it was great!
