Laverne's Sports Bar - Big Island Edition

First off, I apologize for the quality of these photos, it was dark and they are grainy.  I hopped over to Kona after work on a Friday to spend some time with my favorite lady, Peggy.  She picked me up at the airport and we headed to Huggo's for a couple drinks then over to Laverne's for the live music.  Once there, we decided to get the nachos.

Nachos Nachos $9
So BIG we had to say it twice! Loaded with cheese,
refried beans, tomatoes, and onions then topped with
guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and fresh jalapeƱos.
Add pork, chicken, or mahi mahi for $3.

I really wanted to get the mahi mahi but Peggy thought that would be weird so we went with the pork.  It was an excellent decision.  The pork was onolicious!   When the nachos came out they were topped with huge piles of pork, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. You couldn't even see any chips or cheese under them.  I was starving from a long day of work and travel so we dug right in and shared with another friend at our table.  The nachos proved too much for our trio of ladies to finish.  We just couldn't do it.  After a few dances with the Aussie's in town for the IRONMAN, we headed to Sam's Hideaway for some shots and karaoke.  We both said we would be home and in bed early since we were getting up at 4am for the IRONMAN.  But you know how it goes when good friends get together.  One bar turned into another...we just had to catch up on what we had been up to these last few months...ooh wanna do a shot?  Crap, is it really midnight already?  Okay...one more shot.  ;)

Shananigans (3.5) - PRESENTATION: Huge piles of stuff but where's the cheese? RAD: yummy pork.  LAME: where's the cheese?  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3.5, Way too many toppings piled high on top of hidden chips.  You could not eat without a fork.  They need to be layered better so you can get a little bit of everything on your bite.  Instead you had monstrous globs of guac, sour cream, salsa and big hunks of pork that took up each bite. The chips were a bit too thin to hold the heavy pork, but tasted fresh.  I did finally find the pile of cheese and beans at bottom.  The raw onions are harsh and made me have onion breath all night.  Not the best when you are in loud bars having to whisper close in someone's ear. But I couldn't stop eating them, because I love onions.  Sorry bar friends!
