Don Goyo's Mexican Food

After spending a couple hours cleaning up our campsite at Ho'omaluhia and exploring the beautiful botanical gardens (see pics after the nacho blog), we were hungry for a late lunch.  I am not very familiar with the Kaneohe area so we turned to Yelp to find nearby restaurants.  We settled on Mexican food and found Don Goyo's just a few minutes away.  We saw a picture of the nachos and they looked super yummy.  Upon arrival we discovered they had 4 different kinds of nachos on the menu, including Seafood Nachos.  The Nacho Friends are definitely going to have to come here and taste all the varieties.  We settled on the grilled veggie nachos and a chile relleno to share.
The chile relleno came out first and was covered in a delicious red sauce.  The nachos came out a few minutes later and were WAY bigger than what we saw in the picture.  We were definitely going to have a hard time finishing them all.  At a quick glance you could see the variety of grilled veggies and lots of real cheese melted all over the chips.  The veggies had a delicious grilled flavor that contributed a lot to how well-received the nachos were to the two of us.  We opted to add jalapenos for a little kick and it's a good thing we did because they lacked any kind of spice. I also asked for a side of their spicy green salsa but it wasn't that hot either.  To be fair, our favorite hot sauce is made from reaper peppers so we may be a little biased when it comes to levels of heat.

The restaurant is super quaint with only a handful of tables.  We would take over the entire place if we went in there and did a nacho blog, in fact we might not all even fit. We will have to check on the maximum occupancy of the room, LOL.  Our waitress was very sweet and answered all of our questions.  My only complaint was that we didn't get share plates so it was pretty messy to get from the plate in the middle of the table and into your mouth without spilling.  I only had one napkin until I was able to ask her to bring me some more.  Nachos were ALL OVER my hands and my face.
We both agreed that these were super yummy nachos.  The veggies had so much flavor!  The real cheese was delicious but when you grabbed a chip, all his chip friends came with so you had a huge handful to try to eat.  We will be back with the group to explore all the options!

Shananigans (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Holy crap these are bigger than the picture!  RAD: Real cheese, yummy grilled veggies (green and red bell pepper and onion), homemade chips, black beans, baked. LAME: Lack of spice. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5, Covered in toppings, empty chips used to scoop extra toppings so pretty ideal.  Olives would be a great addition, maybe some grilled pineapple. Tiny place, playing so much Selena.

Dusty (4) – PRESENTATION: Good variety of toppings and big portion! RAD: Grilled veggies have really good grilled flavor, lots of cheese and other toppings.  LAME: No queso, not a huge fan of red/green pepper. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, Perfect amount of toppings .  Great nachos, queso and less green peppers would’ve been better.

Tried to finish but could not.  Needed some more chips to scoop up those extra toppings but we were stuffed anyway.
