El Burrito

I have been wanting to try this place since I moved to the islands 8 years ago. I see the sign almost daily on my commute to work, each year the anniversary number getting bigger.  Currently it reads 33 years, which is almost as many years as I have been alive. The restaurant is small and it is BYOB so you can pick up some drinks at the Nijiya market down the street. I highly recommend picking up a Chu-hi, a mixture of shochu, carbonated water and fruit juice. Our waitress< Joselyn, was super friendly and the chef came out to talk to us several times to make sure that we loved our food. They easily accommodated our party of 10 even though there was limited space.

The nachos were simple, but the ingredients were fresh and full of flavor. And you can't beat the prices. This little restaurant is a treasure to find with affordable food that tastes really good.

We welcomed our latest newcomer, Zack to the group. Brando even let him borrow a nacho shirt so he could be super festive. When Zack walked over to grab some beers at the market, Flaco walked by and saw his nacho shirt and was like, "Hey!" obviously assuming he was here for Nacho Night.

Stacey (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Pretty presentation, on the petite side. Looks appetizing, like there is a lot of chicken and came with a dollop of guac in the middle. RAD: Good tasting, not salty (I don't like it when food is overly seasoned.) LAME: On the small side. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, not bad. Very nice service, accommodating, tiny place, closes early.

Brando (3) – PRESENTATION: Very basic, basically chips, guac, cheese & chicken. RAD: The cheese, they loaded it with cheese. BYOB is always RAD. I get a kick out of drinking Rolling Rock at any establishment. LAME: No beans, beans are essential! They have em on the other nachos, just not these. I chose the red-headed step-nachos. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, every chip has toppings, but the serving size is small, so this is to be expected. Kind of like the cognitive state of our country. I'll eat em, probably repeatedly if I've been drinking, and I have. But I will probably come back for the chicken burrito. Staff is super friendly, nachos could use a little work. The ingredients were tasty, maybe come back for something else.

5 kinds of nachos...who wants one of each???

Mike (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Nice presentation. RAD: Love the guac! LAME: Not very colorful. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, pretty good ratio-could have had more chicken, cheese & guac! Service was great! The vibe is cool, like being in Mexico City.

Chicken Nachos $6.50

Nicole (3.5) – PRESENTATION: Minimalist nachos… Nice looking meltyness. Even dispersion of cheese, which is nice.  RAD: Yummy salsa and super melty yummy cheese with good house made chips. LAME: Notta lotta toppings… would love some jalapenos, maybe combine the beans and beef would be delish.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, Good amount of toppings per chip ratio but minimalist toppings overall. More bang for your buck! Full for $7, not bad!

Tostada Nachos $9.25

Shananigans (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Wow, it's so big! Has lettuce on top that looks refreshing. RAD: Fresh ingredients, cheese melted on every chip, lettuce is a fun touch. Portion is more than enough for one person. LAME: Lacking spice, too many tomatoes in the guac for me. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5, excellent flavor on the chicken. Cute place, friendly staff.

Flaco (4) – PRESENTATION: Very nice! Looks like every chip has some toppings on it! Nice looking dollop of guac in the middle.  RAD: Very cheesy! There seems to be cheese on every chip which is nice. The guac is a nice addition.  LAME: The chips aren't the best I've ever had.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, amazing ratio! Not the most exotic toppings I've ever seen, but I was friggin hungry! The chips could be better.

Zack (5) – PRESENTATION: Oh my lord. Beautiful distribution of cheese and a tasty plop of guac in the middle.  RAD: Hot sauce brought out promptly. no CILANTRO! LAME: Menu was weird. Some choices were toppings, some were sizes, some were food group.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Weirdly perfect ratio, beans melted in with the cheese.

Bean Nachos $5

Beef Nachos $6.50

Yummy tapatio!
