BIC Tacos is another one of the awesome build your own creation places that offers nachos, burritos, and tacos. The Kapolei restaurant is small, but had the perfect large table in the back for our group. I love being able to put whatever toppings I want on my nachos. Tomatoes are gross and nachos always have them on there. I like the option of different beans and meats and all the other yummy toppings. Most people went for an order of nachos per person, which honestly I thought I would be capable of eating. Once I started to dig in, I regretted not sharing. The man making our nachos and taking super awesome care of us was named Kalani. He even took the time to help us with our group photos. If you get the pleasure of having him make you food, tell him Aloha from the Nacho Friends.
Although they have both queso and shredded cheese options, you only get to choose one or pay extra. I say they should just give you a little less of each and put them both on there. Then people will be like, "Woah! They gave me TWO kinds of cheese!" We don't have to know that you put a little less and everyone would be super stoked. I chose the carne asada which had a lot of flavor. The hot sauce is not lying, that shit is hot. Made me sweat all kinds of cocktails out of me from the night before.
After nachos, we killed a little time by having a cocktail at the restaurant next door. It did not help my hangover. When it was time for our skating session to start, we all excitedly drove the five minutes so we could re-live our childhood happiness. PRO TIP: don't have a hangover if you are going to try to skate for the first time in 20 years. You need all your strength. It's not like you remember. I used to dance around the floor doing all kinds of tricks. I put the skates on and somehow couldn't remember a thing. It took me 30 minutes to get from the skate rental to the locker and finally on the floor. Because it's an inline hockey floor, it's a little different than the rinks I grew up in. It wasn't as smooth, which at first, was good because I didn't feel as wobbly. The first few laps around were painfully slow and my body couldn't do what I was telling it to do. I could only stop by slamming into a wall. Turning took all my concentration. My feet began hurting instantly and weird muscles that haven't been used since the 90s started to burn in my butt and my legs. After about an hour, I was finally picking up some speed and getting the hang of it again. Then I attempted to do the cross your legs under each other when you turn thing and almost caused a pile-up. I went back to basics. Although we all went in with the intentions that we were going to skate around and have all the fun of our youth only to have the reality hit us in the face that we are not that cool anymore, we still had super loads of fun. Most of us want to come back. The highlight of my afternoon was when This is How We Do It came on by Montell Jordan. I spent every Friday night at the roller rink in my early teens and that song played every week. It brought back so many good memories to hear.
After this successful nacho outing, our goal for 2019 is to do more nachos + adventures pairings. Next up, go karts.
We are sure going to miss you and your adorable face, Wammy! |
Guess who was first in line? LOL. No shame this one. |
So many choices! |
JQPineapple (4) – PRESENTATION: I got the chips on the side and ate the nachos like a
dip. I like the individuality of the nachos.
RAD: Meat tastes good and had plenty of toppings.
LAME: Not enough heat, could've used hot sauce on the table.
TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 5, I put my own toppings on the chips.
Perfect ratio if you dip yourself. I like the concept so your chips don't get soggy. |
Celestial
Seasonings (5) – PRESENTATION: ???
RAD: The chorizo is spicy! Worker said it was cooked with
habanero. Very liberal with toppings. LAME: Only
guac was extra and queso had no flavor. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4, maybe a few more chips. Place was clean and the
nachos were very yummy!
Noah (5) – PRESENTATION: Upon laying my eyes on my feast of nachos, my brain
experienced difficulties processing the beauty that presented itself to me and
my fellow nacho bloggers.
RAD: My "nacho artist" made me feel like I am the
only one true Nacho King.
LAME: No bathroom and I have to tinkle (drain the lizard).
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Ivy league mathematicians have attempted to calculate
the appropriate/ideal ratio of toppings to nachos. During their efforts, they
discovered that time travel, later light travel and discovered why the
dinosaurs became extinct however they could not solve the mystery of topping to
nacho ration. I loved the company!
Nacho Libra (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Colorful and covered!
RAD: I love getting to pick only the toppings that I want.
Fresh squeezed lime juice was tasty addition. LAME: Can't think of anything, guess that’s what happens
when you get to order just what you want!
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, had extras! Glad that it had two types of cheese as
well as pico de gallo and hot sauce! I would totally order these again.
Shananigans (4.2) – PRESENTATION: Love
create your own! The bowl is big, damn it,
I should have shared with someone. RAD: Hot sauce is actually HOT. YAS! Crispy chips. Every topping I love and
nothing I hate (like gross ass tomatoes).
LAME: Not enough cheese. Queso could be better. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4.9, perfect ratio, so many toppings. The steak was super flavorful and yummy and
that hot sauce saved the day. The chips stayed crunchy even with all my wetness
on top of them.
Dusty (4) – PRESENTATION: Decent, not a lot of color. RAD: Build your own, lots of cheese, big portion. LAME: Not a ton of interesting flavors. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 3.8.
Nacho Queso (4) – PRESENTATION: They looked great since we got to build them how we wanted
them. A little surprised the second cheese cost extra. It's a big bowl of
nachos so I am glad I am sharing.
RAD: Lots of meat and almost too much toppings.
LAME: Ran out of chips, so it could have been worse, LOL.
Managed to fork the last bites.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, there were a lot of toppings. They lasted longer
than the chips with the best ratio to have. They were tasty and filling. Staff
were friendly and nice.
Amber Rose (4!) – PRESENTATION: Lots of toppings! Build your own! RAD: Tons of toppings. Build your own rocks.
LAME: Only
nacho cheese available. I am a sucker for real cheese.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Toppings to chips are a solid 4. We're so full we got
full coverage. No margaritas, boooo!
Wammy (4) – PRESENTATION: Decent variety of available toppings. Makes for a
pretty nacho mountain.
RAD: The hot sauce has a great flavor and a nice kick.
LAME: They were out of corn salsa, which is usually really
good. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4, Not the most efficient line but quick regardless.
No need for servers or long waits.
Lizzy (3) – PRESENTATION: Not bad, seemed to skimp on some toppings.
RAD: The guac was really good!
LAME: You had to pay for extra cheese, queso or shreds only.
:(
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, they were not very good at covering. I hated the
steak meat and wished I had gotten another kind. Had to pay extra to get both
cheeses. Cute inside, but dirty and they ran out of things while we were there.
We have a knack for always matching, even when we don't plan it. Today's theme? SPACE. |
I want to drink margaritas with that dude. |
