Jazz Minds and Chris' Birthday

For Chris' birthday, we scheduled a fun night at Jazz Minds to listen to music and eat the ahi nachos. We were a little early but they let us in anyway and even started serving us drinks while they were still setting up. The nachos were amazing! They were huge and looked so much better than the picture on the menu. The ahi portion was nice too (lots of places skimp on the ahi). The ingredients all combined together so well with a spicy pop of flavor. They know what they are doing with these ahi nachos.

The band was huge with so many members I don't know how they all fit on the stage. They even sang Chris Happy Birthday! We tried a few of the other dishes and they were also very good. We definitely recommend this place for the food and music.

Jazz Minds Ahi Nachos $16 - Fresh fried wonton nachos with raw tuna, onion and homemade spicy sauce.

Shananigans (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Very beautiful! Better than it looks in the picture on the menu. RAD: Spicy mayo drizzle, perfectly fried wonton chips, good portion of ahi. LAME: Eric's face! TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5, more generous than I thought they would be. Super yummy, flavor pop, spicy kick. The Gorgonzola pasta is so creamy and delish.

Nacho Birthday (4.75) – PRESENTATION: Bigger than expected! Looks delicious and it's with wonton chips. Looks like lots of toppings should last until the last chip.  RAD: Wonton chips and spicy aioli sauce. LAME: Needs something to balance out the dish, like avo, or daikon, or something to counter the heat.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, the toppings lasted all the way to the last chip.  Can't complain about that! The place was happening. Live music (Mike and Friends) really brought a lot of people. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stacey and Mike (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Awesome! Looked like more generous portion than the photo on the menu.  RAD: Nice portion and size and spicy! Wonton chips are so crunchy, very good.  LAME: Nothing unless you don't care for spicy hot. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.75. Need more staff maybe, service was a little slow, but not bad. Friendly and efficient.

N8 (4) – PRESENTATION: Very even, symmetrical and well distributed toppings.  RAD: Simple, spicy and delicious. LAME: Needs avocado! TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5. Service is pretty good for being short staffed.

Zack (5) – PRESENTATION: Looks bootyful. RAD: The crunch/flavor of the wonton chips and the spicy aioli. LAME: My face. Only 1 kind of nachos, but can't blame them. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Cannot comment as I did not eat the entire meal. Friendly, very friendly. They helped us even though they were still setting up.

Don Frijoles (4.44) – PRESENTATION: Stylish, I'm hungry. RAD: Very, very good poke. LAME: Nothing. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4. Good liquor in the front, try poke in the back.

Michelle (5) – PRESENTATION: Beyond expectations. RAD: Nachos are like "pastel" (fried pastry from Spain). They are delicious.  LAME: The picture of the dish on the menu looks like a small portion.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5.

Nacho Libra (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Ooh! These look good! Heaps of ahi and pretty drizzle. RAD: Its Chris' birthday!!!! The wonton chips are crispy and delicious! The ahi is fresh and super flavorful! That sriracha mayo has some spice! LAME: Missing another hint of freshness, maybe some avo? TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5. The drinks are strong and the music is fantastic!!! Loved the croquets!

JQPineapple (4) – PRESENTATION: The smell and look are ono. RAD: Flavor, meat, veggies, and toasted sesame seeds on top.  LAME: The parking.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5. Nachos were delicious!

Bean Queen (4) – PRESENTATION: Looks amazing. RAD: Well seasoned spicy poke dish with a generous portion of poke. Good value for your money.  LAME: Took a long time to order and for food to come out. Also it's a cold dish so not the nacho experience I was hungry for…but amazing nonetheless. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, tons of poke. Delicious but I bumped them down because of the loose interpretation of nachos…I like cheese lol. Awesome 1^st nacho club experience. Sick band!
