Harbor Pub - Night of the Nacho Coma!

Our biggest group yet met up at the Harbor Pub on Tuesday night.  There menu listed 5 varieties of nachos under the SIDES section of the menu. Kinda strange, but whatever...5 kinds of nachos!  It was an unprecedented occasion and probably one that will not happen again.  Some restaurants may have two kinds of nachos, but most only have one.  Once we began the task of trying and rating 5 different kinds of nachos, we realized how difficult that is!  It's a lot of nachos!!!!  But the gang stayed strong and got thru them all.  And just when we thought we had too much leftover, a late arrival showed up to clean up what was left.

Nacho Friends pre Nacho Coma

Nacho Grande - $10.50 - Crisp tortilla chips topped with taco beef, beans & cheddar cheese.  Garnished with island avocado, sour cream, olives and jalapenos.

J9 (2) - I wanta more meat…K!  Like I couldn't even find it till the very end. Needs way more cheese to chip ratio and add beans! RAD: Nice spice to the meat…just wish there was more. LAME: Not enough taco meat and cheese.  T:C Ratio = 1, we got the meat on the side from the vegetarians and added it to ours.  Good guac and sour cream ratio.

Katia (n/a) - Meat, poor animals :( RAD: n/a. LAME: n/a.  T:C Ratio = n/a.

Autumn (3) - Very nice presentation. RAD:They are grande. LAME: Beans mixed with meat = sad vegetarian friends.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Traci (3) - Lots of empty chips in the middle - that's why they look big. RAD: Good melty cheese, variety of toppings. LAME: Side of meat was just ok.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Shananigans (3.5) - Chips salty and warm with REAL cheese. RAD: Big clump of guac. LAME: Beans are mixed with meat so the vegetarians don't get any.  T:C Ratio = 3.5, not good toppings on bottom.

Richard Smoker (2.5) - Really? RAD:Comes w/out meat. LAME: Beans + meat together…wtf.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Maria (3) - If the cheese wasn't cold, this would have a higher rating. RAD:Lots of jalapenos. LAME: Cheese was cold.  T:C Ratio = n/a.

Chereefer (3) - Cheddar would be better with jack, we added the side of meat from the veggie order to make the meat portion sufficient. RAD:Large helping of guac and sour. LAME: Not enough meeat and prefer cheese variety.  T:C Ratio = 1, needs more toppings under the first layer of chips.

Kelly (4) - Guacamole was just ok. RAD:Good variety of toppings. LAME: Beans and meat cooked together.  T:C Ratio = 5.

Steve (3) - RAD:Chips piping hot, nice amount of sour cream. LAME: A little "one note" jalapeno too pickled.  T:C Ratio = 4.

Don Frijoles (4) - Love the wicker basket plate holders. RAD:Plenty of jalapenos. LAME: Cheese could be layered.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Nate  Lo siento pero no tuve la oporunidad para comerlo.

Overall (3.1 ) - T:C Ratio = 2.9.

Veggie Nachos - $10.75 - Crisp corn tortilla chips, fresh onions, bell peppers, fresh tomatoes, olives & jalapenos.  Garnished with avocado and sour cream.

J9 (4) - Healthy…kinda! RAD:Good amount of guac and sour cream. LAME: No meat...I'm carnivorous, what can I say.  T:C Ratio = 3, bell pepper and other raw veggies made it taste fresh.

Katia (4) - Like da mounatin. RAD:Jalapenos and Veg-ness!  No animals dead. LAME: Maybe mo cheeses.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Autumn (4) - Didn't try them.  Opted to interview the two vegetarians. RAD:"Oh my god! So good, " - Kate. LAME: "Not really a fan of raw onions.  Doesn't have as much cheese on bottom and bell peppers are not good, " - Maria.  T:C Ratio = n/a, thank you Mara and Kate for your input.

Traci (4) - Never had bell peppers on my nachos before.  RAD:Presentation, good variety of toppings. LAME: Needed beans, hard to handle.  T:C Ratio = 4.

Shananigans (3.5) - Huge pile of nachos. RAD:Bell peppers. LAME: No beans.  T:C Ratio = 3.5.

Richard Smoker (4-) - Beans? RAD:Veggies fresh. LAME: Where's the beans.  T:C Ratio = 4+.

Maria (4) - Toppings were mostly on the top, not underneath. RAD:It's vegetarian on its own. LAME: Bell peppers and onions.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Chereefer (4) - My kind of nachos + meat. RAD:Fresh veggies. LAME: No meat.  T:C Ratio = 4, perfect if it had meat, I heart the toppings.

Kelly (3) - Needs beans! RAD:Green peppers are creative. LAME: Difficult to get toppings on chips.  T:C Ratio = 4, lots of toppings.

Steve (3) - RAD:Beautiful height to width ratio. LAME: Too far away.  T:C Ratio = 3.5.

Don Frijoles (n/a) - Veggies could be more eclectic. RAD:No dead cows/chickens. LAME: No dead cows/chickens.  T:C Ratio = 3, perfecto.

Nate (4) - Good fresh jalapenos a plenty. RAD:Veggies good for my colon. LAME: No meat makes it rabbit food.  T:C Ratio = 4.

Overall (3.77) - T:C Ratio = 3.55.

Just Cheese - $9.25 - More cheese topping crisp tortilla chips with choice of our fresh cheddar cheese or our delicious pizza blend.

J9 (1) - Reminded me of being a broke college student…chips and cheese…I must survive. RAD:Lotsa cheese. LAME: It is what it is, not so exciting to eat.  T:C Ratio = 4, not much to say, cheese is good.

Katia (3) - Boom! Queso! RAD:Tastes homemade!. LAME: Nada.  It is what it says.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Autumn (3) - Just cheese makes me happy!  Sour cream would have been good. RAD:Cheese!  Nothing to pick out. LAME: Needs sour cream side, maybe multiple cheeses for being "just cheese".  T:C Ratio = 2, with these nachos being only cheese, they should layer better.

Traci (2) - Salsa on side was good and spicy. RAD:Nice color on the cooked cheese. LAME: Needed to dip for more flavor.  T:C Ratio = 1, no cheese after top layer.

Shananigans (2) - Something nostalgic about just cheese and chips. RAD:Cheese kinda burnt like the yummy part of lasagna. LAME: Could use something else.  T:C Ratio = 3.5, bottom chips empty and it's just cheese and chips.

Richard Smoker (2) - n/a cmon! RAD:Cheesy pleasy. LAME: Just cheese.  T:C Ratio = 2.

Maria (2) -  RAD:Good Cheese. LAME: Too plain.  T:C Ratio = n/a, seems like less cheese than the others.

Chereefer (1) - For the super boring people. RAD:There's cheese?. LAME: Lame all around.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Kelly (2) - Just one step above squeeze cheese and chips. RAD:Name was very appropriate. LAME: Just cheese.  T:C Ratio = 2.

Steve (3) - I bet the picky kids would love this! RAD:It's not false advertising folks. LAME: Needs more cheese.  T:C Ratio = 1.5.

Don Frijoles (3) - These are nachos my little sister eats. RAD:Is what it is, no surprises. LAME: Could have made it at home in the microwave when I was 12.  T:C Ratio = 3, good but more layers required.

Nate  - Lo siento pero no tuve la oporunidad para comerlo.

Overall ( 2.18) - T:C Ratio = 2.5.

Jumping Jack Flash - $10.50 - Crisp corn tortilla chips topped with our jalapeno jack cheese, olives, jalapenos & plenty of salsa.

J9 (3) - Jumped for jack, but he didn't jump back.  Like the jalapenos, simple but good. RAD:Lots of olives, I loves it a lot. LAME: Needs more heat!!! I like it spicy.  T:C Ratio = 2.

Katia (3) - Love the big jalapenos! RAD:Pepperjack chz. LAME: Needs beans.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Autumn (4) - Nice and Tall!  Favorite Whoopi Goldberg flick! RAD:Jack Cheese. LAME: IDK.  T:C Ratio = 3.

Traci (2) - Hard to differentiate from the grande. RAD:?. LAME: Easy to forget.  T:C Ratio = 3, lots of empty chips in the middle.

Shananigans (3.5) - Keeps to traditonal nacho recipe:  cheese + peppers + chips and adds olives.  RAD:Olives. LAME: No beans.  T:C Ratio = 3.5.

Richard Smoker (n/a) - Not mer RAD:n/a. LAME: Cheese cold + not hot (spicy).  T:C Ratio = n/a.

Maria (3) - RAD:Chips tasted very crunchy. LAME: n/a.  T:C Ratio = n/a.

Chereefer (2) - Standard but perfect for those picky nacho eaters. RAD:Mucho jack cheese which was better than the cheddar. LAME: Too few toppings, although the few they had were in abundance.  T:C Ratio = n/a, I like more topping variety.

Kelly (3) - RAD:Very spicy. LAME: Not enough variety in the toppings.  T:C Ratio = 4.

Steve (3) - Needs more layering of flavor. RAD:Cheese is creamy. LAME: Would like onions.  T:C Ratio = 3, chips not too heavy, but still sturdy.

Don Frijoles (n/a) - RAD:Melty cheese. LAME: No jalapenos.  T:C Ratio = 4.

Nate  - Lo siento pero no tuve la oporunidad para comerlo.

Overall (2.94) - T:C Ratio = 3.19.

Nacholada - $11.50 - Hot refried beans & cheddar cheese, your choice of chicken or beef & bean, with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, onions & olives.  Topped with sour cream & avocado & surrounded with crisp nacho chips & salsa.

J9 (5) - It's like a tostada without the shell. RAD:Very tasty and fun to eat separately. LAME: Could be spicier.  T:C Ratio = 5, chips were separate so you can put as much goodness on it you want.  Eating chips separate was nice so they didn't get all soggy.

Katia (2) - Chips & Salsa one plate, toppings on another. RAD:Neat. LAME: Beans need spices.  T:C Ratio = 3.5.

Autumn (5) - Very pretty indeed!  I like that it's a dip.  Refried beans rock! RAD:Avocado and lettuce reminds me of California. LAME: n/a.  T:C Ratio = 5, Nacho Couture.

Traci (5) - My fave tonight, refried beans should be on the other kinds too! RAD:Beans! Nacho salad, good for the person that wants to pick their toppings and make the perfect bite. LAME: No melted cheese, nacho salad should have melted cheese.  T:C Ratio = 5.

Shananigans (4) - 2 kinds of beans, but no jalapenos. RAD:Chips come on the side and refried beans.. LAME: Chips break, you need a spoon.  T:C Ratio = 5, you make it so it is always the perfect ratio for yourself.

Richard Smoker (5) - Yum!!! RAD:Lettuce - very nice. LAME: nadalada.  T:C Ratio = 5.

Maria (4) - Best looking. RAD:Beans and cilantro. LAME: Nothing.  T:C Ratio = n/a, they were separate so we could put as much stuff on as we wanted.

Chereefer (4) - Basically is a dip. RAD:Lettuce and feels/seems larger than a nacho.. LAME: No jalapenos.  T:C Ratio = n/a, on the side so you decide the ratio.

Kelly (3) - Too much lettuce made it smushy. RAD:I like the chips best separate . LAME: Difficult to get all toppings on chips.  T:C Ratio = 5, DIY.

Steve (3) - An interesting idea, not sure if these are real nachos. RAD:Good temperature, salsa has character, beans yummy. LAME: Not pretty.  T:C Ratio = n/a.

Don Frijoles (5) - RAD:Excellent dipability. LAME: Why order anything else?.  T:C Ratio = irrelevant.

Nate (4) - RAD:Enchiladas rock. LAME: Beans…yeah you know.  T:C Ratio = 5.

Overall (4.08 ) - T:C Ratio =  4.81.

Additional Comments:

J9 - They gave us our own section…in the middle of the bar…awesome!  Waiter right away didn’t mind splitting the check for us!

Katia  - Lame in general, no siracha.  If you are going to have such an extensive nacho menu, you need some siracha.  Service = 3 out of 5. 

Autumn - Love the Harbor Pub!  Even if it does smell like 2 pirates dirty beard.  Hunter was super nice.

Traci - Yay for saving us the VIP section.  Next time let's do it during Happy Hour!

 

Shananigans - Chips are a good temperature and saltiness.  Our server Hunter was patient and attentative to our gregarious party of 13, especially at the end when we changed our mind back and forth about split checks.  

Chereefer - Awesome salsa.

 

Kelly - Great night!  Great friends!  Great price!  Adequate nachos!

 

Steve  - Waiter was cool, calm and collected.  Liked the "Cheers" atmosphere.

Nate  - No Mexican hot sauces!

 

Our friend Chelsea who moved to Massachusetts in December sent the gang a care package.  It was filled with delicious chocolate mustachio suckers and other delightful treats.  Thank you Autumn for bringing the box to share with us and to Chelsea for all the hand-made goodness!  We miss you so much!
