A small but starving group of us headed out to LuLu's on the eastside
of Waikiki to taste the Beach Boys. It was Monday night industry night
so Donato got us everything for half off! Nacho paradise in nacho
paradise! One of the workers had heard of us before and came over to
say hello! It's blowing up! We were serenaded by some foxy boy cover
band duo and got to some serious chomp chomp chomping. We ordered one beef for $17 and one fish for $18.

last night a nacho blogger saved my life |
Steve (2.5) but not an F! - Upon first viewing, I noted these nachos were a total classic!
RAD: Nice
richness to the chips! This is the best guac I have ever had on nachos
on Oahu! There is a good diversity of toppings and color combination.
LAME: Too
early into the eating and already getting dry chips! The nachos
weren't cold but they weren't hot enough either. The chips were a bit
too small, there wasn't enough fish, and the overabundance of pickled
jalapenos threw things out of balance. (Sorry to be a debbie downer) I
gave the topping to chip ration a 4 even though it lacked layering. It
seemed as if the chef cared more about the presentation than the soul
of the nachos.

Wailua Wheat with awesome garnishes! |
Donato (2.5) - Good, but average. He likes the amount of cheese notes the presentation as "very appetizing" and has a decent amount of guacamole and sour cream.
RAD: The flavor of the fish and his fellow nacho bloggers (awwww). The music was rad and the server gets a resounding A+ for keeping the waters full!
LAME: Not enough salsa and overall kinda dry. It was super traditional and did nothing to wow him. Donato noted that there were enough toppings but the distribution was the problem. The center was dry.

Too dry in the middle! |
Shananigans (4) - A huge pile of nachos with generous sour cream and guac!
RAD: Guac is good and fresh! Shannon loved the Tapatio sauce offering, not just Tabasco! Sad that Julia Goolia missed the night that had the beans!
LAME: It is most definitely not easy to eat nachos the day of getting 3 cavities filled especially when the nachos are not very generous with the meat portion! Shannon gave the topping to chip ratio a high 3.5, noting the that the top chips are smothered but underneath exists a cavern of naked chips under the cheesy blanket. Shannon also dug the sweet sounds of the band and learned what a "cojan" is!
 |
WE ATE THEM ALL! |
Cheree (4) - The presentation was "a mountain of cheesy awesomeness!"
RAD: Guac was as fresh as can be and there was no skimping on the sour cream!
LAME: Needs more salsa at least more than just a thin layer under the guac. The topping to chip ratio gets a 4 noting some initial dryness on too many chips but the Beach Boys came through in the end. The industry discount was great along with the true to form cover band. The tomatoes and onions were fresh!

what a beautiful group of nacho bloggers! |
Kelly (4) - Kelly truly believes these are a "great pile of nachos!" She notes that they are organized and pretty.
RAD: The black beans and guac were great!
LAME: Stingy
protein portions! She rates the topping to chip ration a strong 4
observing the empty nachos in the middle but in the end feeling like
there were enough toppings. Kelly loved the great variety of toppings
but also stated that she would have liked more proteins for the hefty
extra price tag. The music was for nacho eating. She though we would
have had left-overs but we ate them all!
