The day I moved to Hawaii, my life changed forever. I can still remember the smell of the air when I stepped off the airplane and how inviting it was. I arrived at night and rode thru the city, not knowing what I was in store for and not really being able to see anything since it was dark. The apartment I was staying in was at the top of a steep hill. I woke up at first light and ran out my door to see this world I was now a part of. It was gorgeous! I could see the ocean from my lanai and it was so clear I could even see the neighbor islands in the distance. I felt like I had belonged here my entire life and knew Hawaii was and is where I am supposed to be. Four years later and the island continues to amaze me. Not a day goes by that I do not appreciate the beauty and aloha that surrounds me everywhere. I celebrate the day I moved to Hawaii as my re-birthday. The day I finally started to LIVE my life. That being said, I had all these grandiose plans of driving around the island in tutus with my besties and jumping into as many oceans as we could all around the island to celebrate my 4 years Sunday. Unfortunately, plans fell through so we went on to Plan B and strolled to the city for some drinks and dinner by the ocean for sunset. And that is where the nacho blog comes in. Just so happened the place we ended up at had nachos on the menu. Impromptu nacho blog!

We got the last two seats at Rumfire and they were awesome. We overlooked the ocean and had a perfect view for the pending sunset. I had a cucumber lavender mojito which was one of the most amazing mojitos I have ever had in my life. We ordered the Kalua Pork Nachos for $13: cheese, maui onion salsa, jalapeno, sour cream, guacamole. There was a live band playing on the other side that played a magical blend of contemporary and funk for our listening pleasure. Our waiter did not come around often enough to re-fill our tea and water, but he was so sweet and nice, we couldn't get upset. The sunset was epic. Shananigans & Guacamole Haole (3) - Served in a tall, squarish bowl. Doesn't look to promising to WOW us, basic tostito style chips and liquid queso. RAD: Big pile of sour cream. LAME: The nachos get soggy fast because the cheese all sinks to the bottom and soaks the chips. Not a lot of spice or flavor. Topping to Chip Ratio: 3.75, cheese is not on the top chips and falls to the bottom of the bowl so you get messy fingers. Not much better than 7-11 nachos, although the queso was different than 7-11, it had more of an American cheese flavor. The satisfaction level was definitely 90% visual. But nachos are like sex...no matter how bad they are, they are still nachos. :)
