After a long day of hiking in the sun on volcanic rock and soft sand beaches, we were hungry for some nachos! Silas used his magical interweb on the phone to find the best in the area. It recommend Splashers, a place that has nachos so big, they call them Machos. Parking was non-existent due to Ali'i Street being closed for the monthly street fair. Also, it was play-offs and everyone was at the bars watching Seattle and Green Bay compete to go to the Super Bowl. We had to park blocks away from the seawall and hope our car wouldn't get towed from the shopping center it was in. As we walked down the street, we could hear the crowds erupting. Something serious just happened in the game. We found out later that Seattle had pulled some miraculous comeback and won in OT. Bummer I wouldn't get to wear my Wisconsin cheesehead to a superbowl party. The nachos came out quickly and were piled high. We devoured them. And they were delicious.

$14.99 for a full order or $10.99 for a half: MACHOS - freshly made chips piled high with refried beans, cheese, lettuce, jalapenos, salsa and sour cream. (add pulled pork or chicken $2) |
Silas (Solid 4) - RAD: Chips are pretty sturdy, don't break on you, bean dip all over it, usually not a lot of beans on nachos. LAME: They don't look very cheesy, diced tomatoes and olives would be good. Topping to chip ratio: 4.5, every chip covered. Solid 4 overall, but wondering about the fart factor later. Copious amounts of pork although more like roasted pork, seemed healthier, more beans less cheese.
Shananigans (4) - Homemade chips, fresh jalapenos and salsa fresca ontop. RAD: Fresh cheese, jalapenos, chips are crunchy and salty. LAME: I was worried when they listed lettuce as a topping (sacrilege!) but it is used sparingly, fresh and lovely. The pork is juicy so there's a bunch of nacho juice on the bottom of the plate trying to soggy up the crunchy chips. Topping to chip ratio: 4.75, layered all the way through. Every chip was covered. Flavorful and fresh. Would definitely eat again.
