Hiking Hawaii

By far some of the best nachos we have had on the island to date.  Never before have there been so many high scores!  I have been a fan of Hiking Hawaii since the first bite I tried there years ago.  They have delicious breakfast, tasty paninis, heavenly acai bowls and a variety of thin crust pizzas. And it is BYOB so you can enjoy your favorite libations, whatever they may be.  I like to sit on the patio enjoying a Spanish panini and pork/jalapeno pizza with a bottle of bubbly.  For nacho night Crystal went above and beyond by offering the nacho friends, not just one but SEVEN different kinds of nachos.  Everyone LOVED them and we want more!  Thank you Hiking Hawaii for such a spectacular night of nachos and friends!

Chicken nachos

Tequila Cat (5 - Ultimate) – PRESENTATION: A delectable mess of goodness.  Love the variety of the menu.  Quinoa what???? RAD: Quinoa what???! LAME: No booze, but BYOB friendly so we likey. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, sooooo many toppings!  Loved the quinoa and chili the most.  Fave Honolulu nachos so far.  Great community table set up with lovely friends and staff.

The Andersons (5) – PRESENTATION: Holy Baby Jesus. RAD: Every layer had cheese and goodness to it. LAME: It was lame nothing was lame. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5.  The best!

Tom B. (5 - NICE!) – PRESENTATION: Kinda funny lookin RAD: Deliciously spicy. LAME: They get stuck to the plate. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, Bingo! Very nice people.

The Ultimate

Tyler (4.25 - Chicken) – PRESENTATION: Looks great.  Lots of chicken, guac, doesn't look like enough cheese but we will see.  RAD: I like the extra bang to the taste, they added some type of spice to it. The chicken is the best, not too dry and not too moist.    LAME: I am a cheese lover so I wish there was more cheese added. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3.5.  I think the atmosphere of this café is very welcoming and friendly.  Service was super helpful.

Pantalones Picantes (4 - Greek) – PRESENTATION: Looks Delicioso!  Well loaded. RAD: Guacamole was tasty.  Salsa verde was ono!  LAME: I can't think of anything. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5  Great atmosphere and people!  All the people working were super friendly.

Tom (4, would be 5 but the jalapenos were missing) – PRESENTATION: High expectations from an old favorite eatery.  Looks good! RAD: What the hell is that?! Quinoa?!?  Everything is fresh, but they forgot my jalapenos. LAME: Hard to find from street if you are not a local.  Crowded. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, perfect!  Quinoa was great!.  Will eat again, hopefully it is added to regular menu.

Dankster Drew (5) – PRESENTATION: Dank!! RAD: I'm full of meat stuff. LAME: Caro didn't come with me.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, toppings outnumber chips.  This is fun.

Shananigans (4.75 - Ultimate) – PRESENTATION: Huge pile!  So many toppings!  There is no way I am going to be able to eat that! RAD: Fresh jalapenos, multiple chips, tasty pork, yummy green sauce, love the secret kick of spice, quinoa. LAME: So many toppings, the nachos got soggy.  Had to bring in a fork to finish the job. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.75, almost too much toppings!  Never had quinoa on nachos before and it was amazing.  Awesome service and love the BYOB.

Nacho Spice (5 - ultimate) – PRESENTATION: It was fully loaded plate, overflowing with toppings.  RAD: The flavors of the pork and the spice was enough to let you know it was there and each bite left you wanting more. LAME: Even though I can't eat more, I feel like I'm disappointed I can't scrape more leftover toppings in my mouth.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, there were so many toppings we ran out of chips.  So filling, so flavorful.  Service was great.  The place gets loud, but fun atmosphere.

Guacamole Haole (5) – PRESENTATION: Extreme nachos for the extreme lifestyle.  I live life on the edge and so do my nachos.  Extreme environment for an extreme lifestyle. RAD: 180 degree of windows, 180 degree of mirrors. LAME: Parking. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: The diversity of toppings balanced a  poor chip ratio.  It felt more like being engaged in an activity instead of a dining experience.  Nacho meal drew me in a feeding frenzy.  I barely came up for air.

Scott (5 - Pork) – PRESENTATION: N/A RAD: The chips are extra crispy and stay that way.  The salsa verde is spicy and tangy. LAME: The red salsa is pretty basic. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, plenty of pork, cheese and spicy salsa verde.  A little light on the jalapenos.  Cozy environment, friendly service, quiet background music.

Nacho Libra (5 - ultimate) – PRESENTATION: Large portion - served on pizza pans!  SO MANY TOPPINGS!  Can't even see chips. RAD: Lots of flavor and just the right amount of lack.  All of the extra sauces, I love sauces. LAME: These aren't on the regular menu….they should be!  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, seriously so many delicious toppings!  Needed to use someones plain cheese left over chips to scoop them all up.  Crystal and staff were friendly and quick to serve the nachos!  BYOB is always good!  Thank you!

Nacho Granny (4 - Cheese) – PRESENTATION: Cheesy! RAD: Cheese, just cheese! LAME: Asked for avocado and got guacamole instead (picky eater). TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, cheese wasn't layered super well.  Lovely salty chips.  Always excellent service here.  Do love a spanish panini too!
