Once upon a time we put together an epic team for the 2017 Honolulu AIDS Walk. At the beginning of the year, one of the sponsors of the walk (Hard Rock Cafe) said they would provide a luncheon to the winning team. Little did they know that we would have a historically large team of 231 walkers that raised $19,443! As large as we were, we didn't expect for the Hard Rock to follow through with this prize. But they did! They changed it a little to be buffet style and even provided us with a complimentary cocktail. The best part was one of the board members of the Life Foundation remembered that I wrote a nacho blog from meeting me at the team captain party so they had a nacho bar as part of the lunch set up. This was an amazingly sweet and thoughtful gesture. Everyone was so excited, exclaiming, "They have nachos!" as they walked up to the food. I went all out and made super cheesy nachos topped with coconut shrimp, spicy chicken wings, and pulled pork. It was amazing.
Thank you so much to everyone on the team for all your hard work. What an honor it was to be your team captain. Thank you to the Life Foundation and Hard Rock Cafe to finding a way to thank us when our team was not the typical 20-40 people that you are used to in the past. We do not do it for the recognition, but it sure is nice to get some.
