Cinco de Mayo (AKA Cinco de Drinko) was on a Saturday this year. Whenever a holiday like this is on a Saturday, it is very dangerous for everyone's liver. By the time we got to Wang Chung's all the way on the other side of Waikiki, who knows how many margaritas and tacos we had consumed. It was a lot. We walked into Wangs and were pleasantly surprised that they had a NACHO SPECIAL for the special day. We were in no way hungry, but we powered through because you can never say no to nachos. It's the law. The chips were crispy and the queso was super yummy. Nothing super fancy, but just what you wanted.
Here's what guest blogger Matt G. had to say about this cheesy treat:
MATT (4.5) - PRESENTATION: The presentation was clean. Chips covered the entirety of the plate. 90 percent of the chips were covered in sauce.
RAD: I truly enjoyed that the sauce was not just cheese whiz from the can or Velveeta. I'm a huge fan of Velveeta, I just like to see a kitchen having fun. There was some thought put into it. It was a simple sauce but there was some skill put into it.
LAME: Though the sauce was simple, it would have been nice to see some meat mixed in. Maybe some jalapenos mixed in with some rendered chorizo would have set it off. I also learned that layering with chips, sauce, toppings and then chips, sauce, then finishing with toppings makes for a fantastic finger treat.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, The mixture was pretty spot on. There were only a few dry chips on the plate.
