We spent most of the day exploring the mountain and were blessed with so much sunshine and clear skies. Even though we had a late lunch and weren't really full, there's always room for nachos (and a margarita). The restaurant was super cute when we pulled up and pretty busy for it being 3pm in the afternoon. You could tell a lot of the customers were locals which is always a good sign. We ordered one half order of nachos to share and patiently waited. The nachos were yummy, even with the tomatoes all over that I had specifically requested to be on the side. They were loaded with lots of real cheese and hefty portions of sour cream and guacamole. Olives always make me happy on nachos. The chile verde was a bit much for us. It had good flavor, but the pieces were huge and fatty and I don't do well with meat like that.
It was the perfect stop to end a magical day in a far off land. If you have been to Haleakala, you know what we are talking about. It is unlike anywhere else.
Dusty (4.3) - PRESENTATION: Well proportioned, colorful, large for a half order. SOMETHING RAD: Lots of toppings, good cheese, good pork, good guacamole, chips stayed crunchy, House hot sauce at the table. SOMETHING LAME: Very rich, between the cheese and pork there was a lot of grease, salsa wasn’t great. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5. Overall really good, yes I would order again
Shananigans (3.95) - PRESENTATION: Big pile for a half order. SOMETHING RAD: Fresh guacamole, real cheese, olives. SOMETHING LAME: Asked for salsa on the side and they forgot. Chile verde pork was a little too fatty for me. Should have gotten the vegetarian taco meat. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, almost too much toppings. Basic and delicious. Fresh and quality ingredients make all the difference. Lacking spice. Where’s the WOW part? Wow me makawowie nachos! Cute place, love the decor, love the menu, love the owners charitable kindness.
| They had their own hot sauce bottled for every table but I wasn't really a fan. |
