Waikiki can be super crowded with tourists and visitors but for those of us that live there long enough, it becomes more of a small community with homey neighborhood streets where you see the same neighbors and friends walking their dogs everyday and riding the bus. I cannot even remember the exact moment the three of us became friends. I rode the 2 bus with Patty for years before we actually became friends. Did Connie introduce us? It just seems like we have always been friends. She also plays music with another of my friends on the island at bluegrass festivals and other such gigs. Such a small island.
One Saturday we decided to get out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and head over the mountains to Kailua to listen to a friend's band, Mark Ransom and the Ransom Notes. They were playing at Bowle's Burritos, who just happened to have nachos on the menu. We were lucky to get there early and get some seats at the bar. The bartender was fabulous, always keeping drinks filled even with a slammed bar.
The coolest thing about these nachos is how customizable they are. You can put exactly what you want on them and choose the size. The toppings are incredibly evenly spread across a thin layer of chips so every chip is perfect.

Shananigans (4.5) - PRESENTATION: Very pretty, big plate but kinda small with just one layer. RAD: Customizable, olives, shredded beef has great flavor, sour cream drizzle made it on every bite. Cheese is pick the crunchy bits off the wrapper good. Nice crispy chips. LAME: Not close to my apartment. Because real cheese across all chips, when you pick one up they all come with it, all the chips friends. Huge pile of quac in the middle so it wasn’t on all the chips. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.8, every chip covered for a perfectly layered chip. Toppings very evenly distributed so every chip is amazing!!! Would eat these every day, in all kinds of combinations. Fun band, Mark Ransom and the Ransom Notes. Cute little place. Kailua is fun. Very friendly bartender, attentive and fast, takes care of all the guests with a smile.

wooohoooo! that was fun! We need to do that again! Great write up on the chips there ms Shannon! I remember just how yummy those smelled as they were set down in front of us on that cute little cork trivet...mouth watering oh so ono!!! Nice surprise for the evening out to listen to my pals play!
