For the 6 year anniversary of the Nacho Blog (holy crap, it's been 6 years?!?! How are there still so many restaurants for us to try?), we headed to the new location for OMG in Waikiki. We were a big fan of OMG when it was located on University so we were super excited to check out the new location and celebrate nachos. OMG doesn't do reserved seating, but they made an exception for our party and blocked off the back corner for us. We felt like VIP, thank you OMG!
The nachos are customizable to exactly what you want. I love the white queso OMG has. It's not ghetto queso, but instead delicious, melty, creamy, a little spicy, gooey, queso that needs to be smothered on every single bite. I love it so much I had Dusty get us a side of queso with our nachos so I could dip the nachos in more queso. Maybe I have a problem.
We went during happy hour so we were able to drink lots of nicely priced margaritas and beers with that epic view of the beach and strip below. We were even blessed with a gorgeous sunset as the party came to an end. Newcomer, Ryan, won best dressed when he showed up to his first ever nacho blog in a nacho romper. You rule dude. And also, you are my new best friend now. #nachobff. Jim gets an honorable mention for sporting his hand crafted nacho tie.
I am so overwhelmed with love from all the Nacho Friends every month as we explore new restaurants in silly shirts and nacho ponchos. Who knew we would still be doing this after 6 years and have such a huge to-do list left to accomplish? I can't thank you guys enough for all the laughs and fun nights. Cheers!
VIP what what! |
JQPineapple (4) – PRESENTATION: Well filled, single layer of nacho toppings (meh).
RAD: Fully customizable (all the toppings you want!)
LAME: Got the carnitas but it's super salty, couldn't finish
the meal. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4. Happy hour prices are good.
Celestial
Seasonings (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Amazing
looking nachos. Can't wait to dig in!
RAD: Tasty beef. You can build your own nachos. Don't like
something, you don't have to have it. LAME: Should have asked for salsa on the side. Not enough on
top to make a difference.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, excellent, were not stingy with the meat. Excellent
spot for nacho ponchos.
Roberto (5) – PRESENTATION: They look exactly like nachos should: deliciously sloppy.
RAD: OMG these nachos are so good!
LAME: I ate tooooo much.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, perfect ratio!
Still the king of Oahu nachos, now with a great view.
Lizzy (5) – PRESENTATION: I did a good job picking out my stuff, these look
awesome. RAD: I get to be picky and choose my own toppings.
LAME: Nothing!
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5,
sooooooo good! The braised beef! Super sweet
staff and POG mimosa.
Nachoman (4) – PRESENTATION: Beautiful: Spanish rice, black beans, queso, pico, braised
beef, shredded lettuce, cheese.
RAD: Queso, braised beef. LAME: Surprise super spicy pepper. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4, almost too few chips, platter too small. Solid. Great atmosphere and awesome margs.
Dusty (4.7) – PRESENTATION: Big portion, lots of queso, standard looking nachos,
no bells & whistles.
RAD: Queso!
Best on island, Spanish rice, location, lots of room, can even stow surfboard.
LAME: Extras (sour cream & queso) make them expensive. The
Badger game wasn't on.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.7, quick & easy. Chill atmosphere.
Nacho N8 (4) – PRESENTATION: Looks great, slightly over-priced.
RAD: Melted queso with poblano peppers.
LAME: Pricey.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5. Nice view with the wrap around windows of 2nd
floor building on Waikiki Strip.
Brando (3) – PRESENTATION: It's a smorgasbord (this is the correct spelling, one
of my few talents)
RAD: There's a lot! They definitely weren't skimpy on the
toppings. I think sour cream is free, unless my suave ways won again.
LAME: Liquid cheese. This is personal. Some people like
liquid queso, I don't. Liquid queso is like throwing a filet mignon in the
blender. I stand strong on this point. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 5,
a ton of toppings, I couldn't finish it all. Every chip had toppings, no child
left behind. Generic, lots of toppings, more than enough to eat, but nothing
too special about them. Good drunk nachos. Good filler food. I wish the guac
wasn't an extra $2, so it goes with a restaurant right on the boardwalk.
Jaime (4.5) – PRESENTATION: Fresh
looking toppings.
RAD: Tons of food.
LAME: Worried about the bland look of queso at first, but it
was excellent.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, could use more cheese. Duh. Awesome location.
Tequila Cat (5+) – PRESENTATION: Lovely presentation, eat the rainbow, toppings are superb.
RAD: They put my chips on the side so I could eat half now
and save half for later.
LAME: They were out of fresh cilantro.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, more toppings than chips is always a win for me…just
get extra chips! It was awesome that our group got a special roped off section.
I felt like a celebrity crossing the velvet rope!
Michelle (4) – PRESENTATION: Looks good, big portion. RAD: Spicy melted cheese. I didin' know, I am not a big
fan. LAME: A bit pricey. TOPPING
TO CHIP RATIO: 4. Great location, friendly staff, and a good view.
Thanks Shannon for making special handmade accessories. Happy 6th
Anniversary Nacho Blog!
Saucy Juan (4) – PRESENTATION: Magnarflous! OMG had me like OMG!
RAD: Queso topping was awesome. LAME: Need more pico.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, braised beef, grilled steak, cilantro rice, queso,
pico/corn, hot sauce, tomatillo. Everything was great!
Zaquedilla
& Esteban (4) – PRESENTATION: Dope. Colorful. Plenty of toppings piled real high. RAD: Choosing toppings. Queso is melty. DaKine Hot Mustard sauce
is good! Queso nice and melted.
LAME: Nothing!
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Could be improved, running out of toppings toward end
of experience. Got TV! Go Sox. Gave us the remote. No big deal.
Jim (4) – PRESENTATION: Cafeteria style.
RAD: Create your own, don't like it? Your fault.
LAME: No layering, chips on the bottom, beef is canned.
TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5,
up to you, I piled it on! Self serve. Good views of beach, surfers, tourists. Not
a homey feel, more cafeteria.
