Mi Almita with Andy Cowabunga

When one of the OG Nacho Connoisseurs comes to town, it's a guaranteed Nacho outing. I met Andy in March of 2014 around a fire pit while camping at Malaekahana to see Franti play at Turtle Bay. We instantly bonded as soon as we found out we were born a few days apart and celebrating our birthday months. Later that weekend I was hanging out in a hot tub with a completely different group of friends in Waialua and who walks in? My newest BFF Andy. This was definitely a sign that we were destined to eat lots of nachos in our future. Over the years he has moved to different cities but we have always kept in touch and I know that if he comes to town, he will call me and we will go eat nachos.

PS. Andy is one of the top 3 pickiest nacho eaters I have ever known. But I still love him.  I included some fun photos from our adventures over the years at the end of the blog for your enjoyment.

I took Andy to Mi Almita in Waikiki so we could both walk and they have pretty decent nachos that he had never tried. It was raining a lot that day and we took advantage of a break to make it to the restaurant. Once we got there, it rained and rained and rained. We were forced to stay there for hours drinking the yummy margaritas and making friends with everyone else stuck in the rain.

Three Cheeses, Pork Carnitas, Guacamole, Salsa de Ajo

Shananigans (4) - PRESENTATION: Yummy baked with so many toppings. Mines bigger than Andy’s. RAD: 3 cheeses!!!! Guac flavorful, I love olives, cheap margs on taco Tuesday. LAME: Baked so hard all the chips are stuck under a giant nacho blanket, needs more spice. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4, Lots of toppings but all piled on top, they don’t spread well and all the baked cheese makes it hard to pull apart. Fresh yummy ingredients, definitely would eat again. Moist AF in here, I feel bad for the servers, but Caitlyn put in Andy's picky bitch order without any stress.

Andy's Basic Bitch Picky Nachos (chicken, cheese, sour cream ONLY)

Cowabunga (4) - PRESENTATION: Basic bitch as usual. But this has got some dark chicken flare 😉. RAD: Tastes like cumin or coriander or one of those spices you never have. LAME: Onions are mandatory in the chicken. Ain’t nobody got time for dat. And no black beans cause they’re pork fried 😓. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, each piece was deliciously mildewy I felt like there was a flash flood warning in my mouth 😅💦. I would eat them in a box. And with a Fox. But no black beans without pig gives it a 4. Waitress is amazing. Sour cream is damp like a cellar!  And the blue drinks rock.
