Giovanni Pastrami - Royce's Spicy Nachos

We tried the nachos at Giovanni's the other night as a last minute fix for some dinner grub.  We sat at the bar top and the service was not very good.  Our bartender made initial contact and after we ordered waters to start, it was a while before we saw her again.  And she didn't give us a drink menu, so we had no idea what was available to order.  The nachos were sub-par.  The cheese sauce on them was weird.  Hard to describe except by saying they were chalky/gritty, like watered down instant mashed potatoes or vegan cheese (but this wasn't vegan cheese).  And for something that has SPICY in its title, they were not very spicy.  There weren't even any peppers on them.  Even though they were not that great, we still ate almost the entire plate. They do have another kind of nachos on the menu too, maybe those are better.  The bar was really loud but the music playing was fresh and young.  A rugby game on TV that the majority of the patrons seemed to be watching made for nice eye candy during dinner.  I had a delicious and fresh cucumber martini, but just the one because it was like $12.  The breakfast at Giovanni's is great, do not judge the place by this plate of nachos.  ;)

Monkeying around on the walk over to dinner

Royce's Spicy Nachos:  $15 - A giant plate of our homemade tortilla chips covered in a pepper jack cheese sauce, spicy taco-seasoned Natural Black Angus ground beef, tomatoes, onions, guacamole, sour cream, and green onions.

Kelly (3) - Very massive and pretty.  Good, but cheese kind of creeped me out.  RAD - A great taco flavor from the beef, reminded me of school lunch.  LAME - Cheese "sauce" was a little gritty.  I prefer straight up melted cheese.  Topping to Chip Ratio (5) - lots of toppings!  Not a bare chip in the bunch.  What a wonderful intimate nacho date with Shannon!  I can't wait to work on my viking costume.  :)

Shannon (3.5) - Large pile of nachos, lots of toppings.  All the toppings mixed together like a pasta sauce topping.  Didn't taste too bad, but was soupy.  RAD - Taco meat had good flavor.  LAME - Cheese is gritty like really wet instant mashed taters.  Not spicy as advertised and the guacamole was yucky!  Topping to Chip Ratio (4.5) - All chips covered but they get soggy and you need a fork.
