Los Chaparros NACHOS!!

Tyler had to fly home early, so Andy, Tyler and I met early at Los Chaparros before the scheduled nacho night.  The rest of the gang met up with me a little later.  I was there for hours...but it's ok, mango margaritas were on special to keep me company while I waited for the rest of them to show up.  The atmosphere is lovely in this restaurant, the parking sucks, but where doesn't it in Hawaii.  The food is pretty good too, especially for mexican food on the island.  However, the nachos were definitely not up to par.  They came out on a plate which was half covered with bowls that contained the sour cream, salsa and guacamole.  And they were smothered in ballpark/711 orange fake cheese.  Don't get me wrong...I am not a picky person when it comes to cheese or nachos.  I will eat any and all nachos, no matter the quality of the cheese.  But knowing the quality of their food, we just expected more.  When you took the bowls off the plate, the portion was pretty small, enough for one but not much more.  Some people liked that you could dip your chip into the toppings, but I think it's better to pour it all on top and dig in.  They don't do separate checks or like to run multiple cards, but our waiter made an exception for us for the multiple cards which was greatly appreciated.

Yay for mango margaritas on special!

Leschon (1) - Nice flag on top for presentation points. RAD: Chips were crunchy. LAME: Not very many toppings. T:C Ratio=1, more cheese than chicken and other toppings.  So so…asi asi..

Hui (3.2) - Looks very yummy, which nacho cheese on the chips RAD: First time try nacho cheese nacho and 1st time seeing jalapeno as toppings.  And the FLAG is RAD!  The size of the margarita on the rock is as large as frozen one. LAME: Like the regular strechy cheese more than nacho cheese tho…just personal preference. T:C Ratio=3.5, pretty many toppings, like the jalapeno, would like more sour cream and beans.  The decorations on the wall are pretty.  The waiter is very friendly and they let us handle multiple cards

Steve (0.5) - Im afraid…very afraid…Unreal in a bad way! RAD: The sun is still in the sky.  Mitt Romney isn't president. LAME: "nacho" cheese at a "mexican" restaurant is unacceptable. T:C Ratio=4.  Nice marg.

Shannon (2) - Sams club giant tub of cheese sauce covers chips on what is only half a plate because toppings all served on side in bowls on same plate. RAD: Jalapenos, Mexican flag toothpics. LAME: Big plate, small portions. T:C Ratio=3.5, Smothered in fake ass cheese and looks pretty covered, especially when you empty the bowls that come on the side on top.  Nice décor, love the Mayan calendar tapestry, daily drink specials.  Hector, my first waiter was super rad .

Traci (1.5) - Looks like what you get at a ball park or 711, not a mexican restaurant.  Sometimes nacho cheese is awesome, but not at a mexcian restaurant.  I was expecting and want more than what we got. RAD: Toppings all on the side so you can personalize bites. LAME: Nacho cheese sauce = not too authentic, said it came with black beans but they were missing, when informed, they brought out a side promptly. T:C Ratio=4, lots of toppings, but only a small amount of pico de gallo.  Complimentary chips and salsa were good, salsa had good flavor and spice.  Mango margaritas were on special and yummy.

Am I at 711?

Vegetarian style with meat on the side....  $7.50 or $9.50 with chicken, steak, shredded beef or carnitas.  Homemade tortilla chips with melted cheese, black beans, served with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo on the side.

Donabed (3) - I luv the massive amounts of cheese and toppings on the side is awesome! RAD: Tons of cheese.  I luv river of lava cheese. LAME: Kinda small portion, shredded chicken, prefer grilled chicken. T:C Ratio=4.  Very festive atmosphere.  Viva Mexico!!!!

Andy Cowabunga (2.5) - That is so small! (something I have not heard before…) RAD: The small bits of chicken were brilliantly seasoned, better than shake 'n' bake. LAME: I hope the lunch ladies were wearing hairnets because that cheese was school cafeteria worthy. T:C Ratio=2.5, not much chicken, few beans, easy cheese in abundance.  Service was awesome!  But…you shouldn't finish a plate of nachos and still be hungry…just saying.
