El Mariachi II - Aeia

After mistaking a side trail for the wrong trail head and descending a steep, slippery mountainside and then painstakingly making our way back up to the top (once we realized this was not the gully we were supposed to be in) without major injury, we eventually found the trailhead we were supposed to be on all along.  However, at this point we were tired, covered from head to toe with mud and decided that instead of descending down another quite steep, slippery mountainside, we should just go get nachos instead.  The decision was unanimous and we quickly searched for the nearest and yummiest nacho destination in Aeia.  We did our best to clean up, but it was pretty much hopeless for me.  There was more mud on me than clean skin.  We got there right after it was opened and were greeted by a super friendly server who let us wash our hands in their sink which I was seriously grateful for.  They offer vegetarian, shredded meat, chicken, steak and seafood nachos (although the seafood ones are not on the menu and cost $16.95).  We opted for chicken and steak.  The restaurant was quaint with sombreros and Mexican art on the walls. The music was traditional and reminded me of my days working at El Charro Avitia back in Carson.  I loved that job.

Fresh tortilla chips topped with choice of meat, cheese, tomatoes, onions, olives, fresh guacamole and sour cream.  Beans or shredded meat $9.95.  Grilled steak or chicken $10.95.  Seafood $16.95

Nacho review by Tom T.
Something rad - free chips that are warm and crispy! Free salsa. BYOB apparently! Big portions of nachos big enough to share. Cheap! Homemade hot sauce was offered.
Something lame - the salsa isn't very flavorful or spicy. The nachos, while balanced otherwise, lack a spicy or really flavorful punch. Not spicy at all. Had to add hot sauce to my bites.
Chip/topping ratio - 4.5 almost perfect! The shredded chicken was more generously dispersed than the beef. Plentiful cheese, tomatoes, guac, and sour cream! Thanks for the onions on the side. Cilantro on top was awesome too.
Atmosphere - not busy, but this was an early lunch at 11:00-something am. Friendly staff for sure! Traditional Mexican restaurant decorations and music.
Overall: 3.75/5.00. Lost points for benign flavor. Everything else was great!

Nacho Libra:
Presentation - large, traditional nachos. Always happy to see big ol' dollops of sour cream and guac!
Lame - needs spice, added tapatio to each bite. Meat needed more flavor.
Rad - real, perfectly melty cheese! Fresh tomatoes and cilantro.
Ratio - 5, evenly distributed and enough to make chips with a bit of all the toppings, which is my favorite way to eat em!
Overall - 3.5, pretty good traditional-style nachos. Could use a punch of flavor, but I guess that's what all the hot sauces were for.
Warm chips with the free chips and salsa. Awesome and super friendly service!

Presentation: Fresh cilantro, plenty of guacamole.
Rad: Good steak and chicken
Lame: A little plain tasting
C/T: 5 Not bad!
Overall: Disappointing, this is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants but the nachos are not as good as the rest of the menu.

Shananigans:
Rad- fresh ingredients, quality sour cream, real cheese. Steak yummy
Lame- chips are weak, lack of spice on nachos, house made habanero sauce made the spice right.
Topping to chip- 4.5, used a fork to make the perfect nachos but the toppings were in the proper amounts, just needed a little spreading.
Overall - 4. Super friendly,  music, Mexico decor, BYOB
