Honolulu Tavern Nacho Night

Tom discovered for us that there are nachos at Honolulu Tavern for $3.50 so we got the gang together for some nachos and fun.  When we arrived, we took over the back room with its pool table and dart boards.  We discovered that the nachos were only $3.50 on Thursdays.  The gang slowly arrived and the bar was busy.  The daytime bartender had not set up the nachos for the evening, so it took a really long time before they were ready to serve.  Slowly the group trickled out as the nachos took longer and longer but we didn't care.  We were having a blast talking story and shooting some pool.  Eventually the supplies were there and the lovely bartendress was able to make us some orders.  We gobbled them down and got her info so we could plan ahead for another night so she can be prepared.  Even though we totally slammed her, she kept a smile on her face all night and was super rad.  Looking forward to our next visit.

 

$3.50 on Thursdays, $5 other days

Nacho Granny (3) - Blandish is how I like it!  My pickiness makes for not colorful nachos...  RAD: Made to order!  So great that they opened up the kitchen just for us.  LAME: No sour cream.  Lil on the salty side.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: Seems okay.  Since they are made to order, there is some thought behind it.  Had a great time with good friends. 

Daniel Lee Son (4.5) - Decent.  Nicely topped.  Great presentation for a dive bar.  RAD: Enough cheese and salsa for chips.  Nicely mixed in.  LAME: Chips on the bottom don't really get toppings after chips on top eaten.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 4.5, cheese, salsa, cilantro, jalapenos, kalua pork.  Chill atmosphere, not too spicy, great service.

Parker (5) - Solid, I would have put a lot more toppings but I'm a foodie.  RAD: The kalua pork on da nachos always rad!  LAME: No complaints, could have been da tequila LOL.  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5.  U can always add more toppings. 

Tom (5) - Fresh cilantro ?!?  Awesome!  RAD: See above.  Excellent pork.  Plenty of jalapenos.  LAME: Ballpark cheese.  But is that really a bad thing?  TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5-Perfect!  Don't show up with a giant party and expect nachos in less than 3 hours!
