After a ridiculously long day in the car driving around the beautifully scenic Waimea Canyon, Tom and I were starving. We used our trusty YELP app to find something new in Lihue. Rob's Good Time Sports Bar had great reviews and was on our way home to Kapa'a. After getting lost in the parking lot just before the lot it was located, we were pleasantly surprised to catch the last 15 minutes of happy hour which included 50% off all appetizers. We couldn't decide what we wanted and since they were half off, we ordered 4 things, including one of the two types of nachos on the menu. The first thing that came out was some crab wontons stuffed full of delicious crab that you dipped in a tangy sauce. And then the smoked pork. And then the NACHOS. I think we may have ordered too much food, I thought. Then the chili peppah chicken came out. Yes, we definitely ordered too much food. It was all so delicious! The only complaint we had was not enough cheese on the nachos. So we fixed that problem by asking for a side of cheese. She brought out a large bowl that we poured over the nachos and then dipped everything else on the table in just to see if it was better dipped in a cheese sauce...because we had a big bowl of cheese sauce! Just when when our stomachs could handle no more, the waitress brought us out some complimentary calamari that the kitchen had made by mistake. The look on Tom's face was priceless! We were already so stuffed, but the calamari looked so good! Huge pieces of meat and fried to perfection. We somehow found room to eat a little of this delectable dish before filling up some to-go boxes to give to our new friends at the condo. And then they put us in a wheelbarrow and pushed us to our cars.
Shananigans (3.5) - PRESENTATION: Chili nachos, good size, fresh toppings, can't see a lot of cheese. RAD: fresh jalapeƱos and olives. LAME:
not enough cheese, what little there was seemed to be under the nachos on
the bottom of bowl. We ordered a side and smothered our reminding chips
in queso Heaven. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 3, until we had the side of cheese. Crunchy chips, kinda bland but good. The
kitchen made an error so we got a free order of calamari, needed a
wheelbarrow to get out. Eating nachos with chopsticks is not as easy as
it looks. Right said Fred came on and it made me disco dance. 3-5pm half off all pupus. Yum!
Tom (4) - RAD: 1/2 off for happy hour on all appetizers!! So totally a great deal! LAME: nachos came without enough cheese at first. Bar hard to find
due to maps and an early turn, but that was soon remedied with a phone
call! TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 2/5 but then 5/5! They
brought us extra cheese (-$1.25) because they arrived quite dry on
toppings. Then we were served a calamari platter for the "mistake".
Wow, above and beyond and friendly! Great ingredients: chili, beans,
olives, tomatoes, liquid cheese, salsa on the side. Needed more
jalapeƱo wheels though! Not spicy enough for me. Atmosphere - standard sports bar. Lots of TVs on the walls with a few other decorations. Tasty!
