El Burro Borracho in Las Vegas, NV - MAINLAND EDITION

I recently made a trip to Vegas to meet up with my dad and sisters to do some family hiking in Utah state parks.  Because Hawaii gives us a holiday for Statehood, I got to start my vacation a day early.  Mahalo Hawaii! I reached out to all my Vegas friends to see if anyone was off and wanted to hang out.  My girlfriend from high school who I hadn’t seen in almost 20 years was indeed free and excited to take me to eat trash can nachos for the nacho blog.  We arrived at the casino just before the restaurant opened so we sat at the bar nearby and had a cocktail just beginning to catch up on the last 20 years.  We both rocked our Battle Born Nevada Day shirts and reminisced on days past.  Once the restaurant opened up, they took us to the very back and we were greeted by a very friendly waitress.  She noticed something of mine that reminded her of Hawaii so she asked if I had just traveled there.  I told her I have lived in beautiful Hawaii for the past 7 years and her face lit up.  She was from Hawaii, Mililani in fact.  Hawaii is indeed a magical place and the power of Aloha so strong.  We were instant friends because of our Hawaii bond.

The décor in the restaurant was what you would expect of a restaurant from Guy Fieri.  I felt underdressed not having anything that was bedazzled or Ed Hardy.  I definitely never expected to go to a Guy Fieri joint on purpose.  In the pursuit of all that is nachos for the nacho blog, we sometimes find ourselves in places we do not expect.  More often than not, we are pleasantly surprised.  These nachos were seriously some of the best I have had.  I think the secret was them being equally coated inside that trash can so every chip was covered in cheese and flavors.  The presentation was pretty cool too, a magical nacho reveal (see video at the end of the blog).  Another bonus of this particular place was that they had a buttload of tequilas.  I got a flight so I could try a few.  I assumed little tasters, but no, they were full 2-ounce shots.  Whoopee!!!

The nachos were delicious, as well as the tequilas, but the best part of the day was catching up with my girl.  I think there’s some fountain of youth water where we grew up because she had not aged a bit! We talked of what we had been up to since high school, other friends we still see, and, of course, of boys.  Although we did not have a lot of time together because I had to get back to take my Grandma out to dinner, I will cherish it so.  I plan to be back in Vegas this fall so stay tuned for our next Nacho Adventure.

Battle Born!

Carson City Babes

Trash Can Nachos $15 - Crispy corn tortilla chips, black beans, melty queso casero, pickled red onion, pico de gallo, crema, crumbled cotija cheese, cilantro, jalapenos (choice of: carne asada $4, chicken $3, carnitas $2, chorizo $2)

Nacho First Time (4.5) – PRESENTATION: This looks awesome! RAD: Frozen margarita was bomb! Finally ate the trash can nachos (viral video)!  LAME: Cotija cheese. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5.  Service was great!  Aloha!  Nachos came out fast!

Shananigans (4.75) – PRESENTATION: Ummm they come out of a can all hot, gooey, covered in cheese, a giant tower of chips and toppings that I am slightly worried will topple over and fall into my tequila flight.  Unlike anything I have ever seen.  RAD: The cheese is all the way through perfectly coated on every chip.  What are these purple pickled things? I love them. LAME: I like spice, it needs more of it.  You need a fork for they are quite messy.  When they get cold the cheese hardens and the nachos become one giant nacho you have to split up. TOPPING TO CHIP RATIO: 5, one of the few that I have ever given out.  Would definitely eat these again.

so ooey, so gooey

We obviously didn't like these at all...
